How to Organise a River Boat Party on the Thames

A cruise party on the Thames is really popular with our clients and it’s easy to understand why…

How often do you get a whole party boat to yourself and your guests?! It’s an impressive way to host a party; black tie dinners and canapé receptions are twice as spectacular when hosted on the Thames and there’s just something particularly magical about dancing on the river. One thing that often deters people is the thought of organising a party on the Thames; it can be quite daunting, but with MELON’s experienced events team by your side it’s not as difficult as you would think! We’ve split the organisation process into a few simple steps to get you started on planning your big night!

Choose from one of MELON’s spectacular selection of River Thames’ yachts

The first thing you’re going to need to do is figure out how many guests you plan on inviting. If there are fewer than 90 of you it’s worth considering something like The Edwardian, the epitome of classic elegance and style, whilst if you are planning a bigger party and have between 500-550 guests you should definitely consider the  Silver Sturgeon, one of the most sensational vessels to ever grace the Thames’. These are our biggest and smallest boats and we have everything in between! Boat Parties are very popular and a lot of nights get booked up very early, so whichever time you decide is perfect, make sure you book it far in advance to ensure you’re on the waters on the date that you want.

Have a think about the food…

Gone are the days when you would’ve had to put all your time and effort into organising a separate catering company to provide food and drink on your boat party; all of MELON’s boat parties include top quality catering options.  Our personal pick is on the The Symphony – this boat offers an elegant four course a la carte menu that brings a hint of sophistication to a charismatically unique French vessel. Alternatively, for a less formal dining option, The Edwardian offers classic hot and cold buffet meals (alongside unlimited house wine, beer and soft drinks!)

Work out which choice of entertainment floats your boat…

From a live on-board band on board The Symphony, to the colour customisable LED lighting and DJ party available aboard The Yacht, MELON has all sorts of entertainment to suit you and your guests’ needs. Most of our boats have a DJ who will delight your crowd whilst the waiters and waitresses circulate with cocktails – so if there are any songs you just NEED to hear than let us know.

Organise your guests

Once it’s all ship-shape and meeting your requirements all you have to do is send your invites out, so get emailing and posting! With MELON helping you with pretty much all of work that goes into the function, this is probably the hardest work you have to do! It should all be plain sailing once everyone has replied, so sit and back and get excited for the party. You won’t have anything to worry about, we’ve got it all covered!

You see, organising the unforgettable boat party you were imagining isn’t as difficult as you thought it would be. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch on 020 3405 1946, or send an email to hello@melonevents.co.uk if you are interested in a river boat party on the Thames!
